Atlanterhavsparken Aquarium Science Centre has been awarded NOK 3 million by the Norwegian Government.
The Norwegian Government has awarded NOK 3 million for Atlanterhavsparken's Science Centre. The pleasing award was handed over to Director Tore Erik Standal and General Manager of the Science Centre Heidi Bostad Roaldsand by Harry Valderhaug (Christian Democratic Party), Helge Orten (Conservative) and Lena Landsverk Sande (Liberal).
The Marine Science Centre will throw open its doors on 1 September, as an expanded classroom for the whole region and an arena for the general public as an experience and learning centre. We want the education sector in the region to come to us," says General Manager of the Science Centre Heidi Bostad Roaldsand, but she is well aware that tight financial resources will also play a part in determining what the centre can achieve.
Many people have to travel for more than an hour to get here. We have therefore entered into discussions with municipalities, the county council and key players in the business community to establish more convenient transport services.
We know that the jobs that the young people of today will end up doing have not yet been invented; it is about innovation and new occupations. The Science Centre will work closely with the business community to address this issue through conferences and seminars.
Kindergarten and other teachers across our region must see us as a resource centre for life in the ocean, and we will be arranging workshops, courses and co-creation sessions linked to the curricula.
The important thing for us is to reach out with our knowledge and understanding of the ocean as a resource and a basis for life. Together with children and young people, we will strive to protect the ocean.
We are proud to have been seen and heard deep in the corridors of the Norwegian Government. This is a fantastic recognition for us and all the hard work we have put in at Atlanterhavsparken over many years. We are now looking forward to starting the planning process to welcome all our visitors from the autumn onwards.
