Trond Østrem becomes operations manager at Atlanterhavsparken ! 🤩👏🏻 Atlanterhavsparken is open 360 days a year. This places great demands on the operation of the facility. Trond Østrem has been hired to manage this work. Trond Østrem is no newcomer to aquarium operations in Ålesund. As a child and young man, he delivered fish and animals to the aquarium when it was located in Fiskernes hus in the center of Ålesund. Østrem studied aquaculture, fishing and trapping before coming to the facility at Tueneset. From 1997 onwards, he was instrumental in filling the facility with fish and animals before the opening in 1998. From 1998, he has been a permanent employee, with the exception of four years as a fisherman between 2002 and 2006. In his role as operations manager, Østrem is part of the management team at Atlanterhavsparken and he will be responsible for 12 full-time employees in the operations department, nearly twelve thousand square meters of exhibition space and for approximately 5,000 fish and animals. Over the years at Atlanterhavsparken Trond Østrem has gained experience and expertise that is only possible by working at Atlanterhavsparken . - Trond has shown strong leadership skills over time and is also an important continuity provider for us. There is hardly a square centimeter on the facility, inside and out, that he has not been involved in planning, maintaining or upgrading, says the CEO of Atlanterhavsparken , Kjetil Aarseth.

This week has been full of exciting activities and great days! 🎉 Here are some highlights: 🚢 We had 304 guests from MS Otto Sverdrup visiting, as well as several cruise ships and private tours. As usual, we also had "ocean day" and "whole fish" for great school classes! 🔬 60 students from Biomarine innovation and Biotechnology at NTNU had an educational day with us where they received instruction in the subject of marine raw materials. Among other things, the students explored fish species used in food production, received lectures in "Whole fish", and made algae-based candy. Fantastic to see innovation in practice together with NTNU! 🌸 Mother's Day: We celebrated with sunshine and free coffee for all mothers ☕️💖 💡 The Science Center was at a facilitator's meeting at the Technical Museum in Oslo, and received lots of inspiration and professional reinforcement for future teaching. 🐙 The octopus will get a new home, and our skilled employees have made a solid effort to prepare the new tank! 🚗 This summer we will be "on wheels" again, and we have test-drove a new, more spacious car! Will this be the science center car of the future? 🎤 Fact-Lars at Møre Havlab: Fantastic turnout and engagement when Lars drove "close" this weekend! A week filled with lots of learning, collaboration and joy - we look forward to the next one! 🙌

Happy Monday everyone! Here's a recap of the week that went by. Atlanterhavsparken 🐙 🌞 This weekend Ålesund showed its best side! There really is nothing like magical days like these here in the park 🥹 🌟 We were in full swing with the semi-finals of the Super:bit competition 2025, a national coding competition for children between 10-13 years old! Fantastically talented and committed participants – this was so much fun! 🚀 📊 We started piloting a new and exciting teaching program at the Science Center! 🔬 🛠️ Several of the employees took a scaffolding course, and are now certified as scaffold builders! Perfect for rigging new installations and ensuring maintenance of the park! 💪 🌊 The intake line to Atlanterhavsparken had started to clog, and therefore had to undergo a maintenance flush. Thanks to the Frøy group and their service boat and diving team, we were able to clean it! 💦 As you can see, there was a lot of life on the pipe with sea anemones and carnations along the intake 🐚 🛠️ They say that the right tools are half the job, and in this case it is true! ✨ Our handyman, Tottiz, is very happy with the park's new addition, a Festool Domino DF 500, which facilitates completely invisible assembly of items and provides room for new and beautiful projects in the future! 🎨🔩 In this case, a new sink, which will eventually be available in the cafe! On Friday and Saturday, we held the regional semifinals of the Super:bit competition 2025! After two thrilling rounds, the team Hardcode came out as the winning team 🚀🔥🎉 They will now continue the competition in the national gold final! Wow, what a week we had! 🥰 Here are some highlights: 🌟 We hosted several conferences, and had a number of school classes here at Havdag. It was full steam ahead all week, and nothing is as joyful as that! 🐾 Muffe and Lilly are having a great time outside. Lovely to see them playing together all day! 🥪 Our Skagen sandwich has, well deservedly, been able to shine a little in the cafe again. It was great when a Swedish guest gave this one a "top score" last week! 😌 🎉 Closing for our wonderful and talented marketing coordinator, Celine, who is now going on maternity leave. Of course, it had to be marked with flowers and cake (actually 3 pieces) - then you know you have done a fantastic job 🍰💐 🎥 We have filmed behind the scenes in the kitchen with Ole, and we are working on producing a "Housetour" of the entire Atlanterhavsparken to you. The result is so good! 🤩 🦈 We have a baby small-spotted red shark!! Really exciting news – how cute is this? 🥹💕 📸 Erling Svendsen, author and one of Norway's most renowned underwater photographers, gave an inspiring lecture for us. In memory of Reidar Tryggestad ❤️ Atlanterhavsparken has a long history. Work was underway on a facility at Tueneset long before the doors opened in 1998. One of the many who contributed financially, Reidar Tryggestad, has now passed away. He was 93 years old. Roger Engvik (pictured), is the chairman of our foundation. He has been one of the enthusiasts who has contributed to Atlanterhavsparken over several decades. Roger has no doubt about Tryggestad's important role for Atlanterhavsparken He particularly remembers a conversation with Tryggestad back in the mid-90s as being crucial for Atlanterhavsparken was even possible to realize. - We were missing 1.4 million kroner to start the construction. An enormous sum! We were quite depressed and despairing, as we did not think we would be able to do this. We had registered that Reidar Tryggestad was a man with a big wallet and an equally big heart for Ålesund. He lived in Boston. This meant that I had to call at night Norwegian time. I told him honestly about the desperate situation we were in. He immediately said that he would contribute with what we were missing. When daylight came, I met the project group. A bunch of people who were hanging their heads, as they were convinced that we would not get the go-ahead to go ahead. I held them on the torture bench for a while, before I told them: Relax! It's okay! Reidar Tryggestad has come in with what we need! The cheers broke out! Roger says that this is not the only time Tryggestad has contributed. In addition to the 1.4 million kroner that was injected into the equity in the nineties, Tryggestad has contributed several times with millions, most recently during the crisis in connection with the pandemic. - Reidar was very concerned about the well-being of Atlanterhavsparkend. He often visited Tueneset when he was in Ålesund. Atlanterhavsparken sends our warmest condolences to the family and other relatives, and at the same time a big thank you for the contributions to Atlanterhavsparken ❤️

Another exciting week in Atlanterhavsparken has passed! Here are some highlights 💙 •Sunny days and a full house! It has been a great day with lots of visitors, and we are so happy for everyone who has stopped by! 🌞 •We have held several Sea Days, and the Science Center as usual taught a number of great school classes 📚👩‍🏫 •The bench project is in full swing! Anton and Einar (Tottis) are ensuring the constant development here in the park, and these are two guys who can do most things. Now it's time for new benches, and we are really looking forward to seeing the results! 💪 •Talking about Tottis! The coffee station needed a little makeover, and of course he is on the case. A new, fresh station is ready in the cafe immediately (And psst! If you have an annual pass, the coffee is always free) ☕💥 •After many years in the cafe (since she was 17!), Anette had her last working day with us. She will soon be a fully qualified teacher! Good luck going forward, Anette 🎓💖 •We have had a course in "The Whole Fish" for a full hall - here there was learning and food enjoyment at a high level! 🐟 •If you haven't figured it out yet, there is never a dull day at work for Tottis and Anton! 😎🛠️ In the Activity Room it was high time to replace the supporting pillars - the crabs had been having a bit too much fun there! 🦀🤠 •We had a visit from 21 students from the Natural Resources and Agriculture program at Ålesund High School! The day was full of relevant teaching and practical tasks related to fisheries and aquaculture 🎣💦 It is gratifying to see the commitment and how much the students appreciate being able to work with what they learn in practice. Anette's amazing journey 🌟🙆‍♀️ 🤩 Anette has been working in the cafe for Atlanterhavsparken since she was 17 years old! After seven years in the same position, this week marked her last working day. In the spring, she will graduate as a teacher, and will embark on a new and exciting chapter. When we ask what she will miss most, the answer is clear: - I will miss the safe and good working environment, the friendships and that feeling of being at home. I have enjoyed myself so much here all these years! Anette started at the park in 2018, and over the years has been given a lot of responsibility. For her, however, this has been so much more than a job. - The entire park. Everything from welcoming guests to seeing how happy people are to be here. I have experienced a lot of coping, and learned an incredible amount of new things. This job has made me much more mature and outgoing. Not least, it has almost given me an education in food. I take with me so much great experience that has been useful in this position, in life in general, and in my education as a teacher, she says. Atlanterhavsparken she describes as a unique workplace for young people, and she would highly encourage other young people to apply. - Here they are very open to giving young people under 18 valuable work experience, which is different from many other places. She describes the environment as inclusive, and as a place where there is room for everyone regardless of age. - Take the initiative, be committed and open. Don't just send an email. Show up in person and submit your CV and application - then you have a much better chance of getting a job! In the future, she will have her hands full with both writing her master's thesis and teaching school classes. She will still prioritize some trips to Atlanterhavsparken . - I will miss this workplace very much, and you should not ignore the fact that I will come to visit - and take some extra shifts when I have time, she smiles slyly. Anette will be greatly missed! We wish her lots of luck in her career as a teacher, and thank her for everything she has contributed to Atlanterhavsparken ! 💙🌊

🌊🐟 Atlanterhavsparken is so much more than an aquarium! 🐟🌊 Did you know that we are a Science Center that holds weekly classes for over 10 school classes? We are a place for learning, exploration and experience - we are the voice of the sea! 🌟 In 2024, we had a total of 2320 students from 136 schools, together with more than 300 teachers, who participated in Havdagen 🐠 Havdagen is a specially designed day for all 5th grades in Sunnmøre and outer Nordmøre, and in 2024 we expanded the scheme to include Rauma, Molde, Tingvoll and Gjemnes. This means that all primary schools from 19 of the 26 municipalities in Møre og Romsdal will have the opportunity to travel to Atlanterhavsparken with free admission and transportation, thanks to sponsorship funds. 🙌 Havdagen offers group activities and individual mastery of practical tasks, where 5th graders get to explore the ocean in an educational and engaging way. The week that passed Atlanterhavsparken 💙 We have had a fantastic start to the new year, and have a super nice week behind us! Here are some glimpses from week 2: 🌅 We have had some absolutely magical sunrises and sunsets – the winter days here are truly something in themselves. Our surroundings are simply breathtaking, and are worth the visit in themselves ❄️✨ 🌟 We have had lots of lovely visitors, and as usual we have had a number of activities on the programme. On our website you can see what is happening from day to day 🥰 thank you very much to everyone who has taken the trip! 🎥 Our café has received an incredible boost with a new projector – we can't wait to show you what we have planned! 🦞 We have filmed all our rare lobsters. The result was absolutely awesome! 📸 🚜 Snow removal and icicle removal have been in full swing – big thanks to our heroes of some employees who have given everything to keep the park safe and accessible 🙌 🐾 These little cuties have had lots of cuddles and play! We can't wait for them to go out to Oterøya in the spring 💕 🎬 And then we have Fakta-Lars – he's definitely not playing around, and of course he brought the script with him out into the freezing temperatures to film new content! 😅 New episodes will be coming on Thursdays as usual, and we hope you're ready for lots of new and fun learning!
