Facts about turbot

Like all flounder species in the var family, turbot are left-handed. This means that the eye has moved to the left side of the body when the flounder has started swimming on its side as a very young fish. This also applies to flathead wrasse, small wrasse, hair wrasse and glass wrasse. All flounders have one eye on each side of the head and swim like "normal" fish when they hatch.
