Sand and gravel bottom in shallow water. Usually down to 20 meters, but can be found down to 500 meters.
Distribution:
From the English Channel and north to Iceland and the White Sea. Found along the entire Norwegian coast.
Food:
Crustaceans, polychaetes, snails and mussels.

The body is covered in bony plates that have given the fish species its name, the armored sculpin. The species has many beard threads that are used to sense prey.
