Eye coral

Latin: Desmophyllum pertusum
Size:
The cups with polyps are 10-20 mm in diameter.
Levested:
Lives at depths of 150-2000 meters and thrives best in current-exposed areas with stable low temperatures.
Distribution:
Found in large parts of the world, northern parts of the Atlantic, Mediterranean, Pacific and Indian Oceans. In Norway, the coral is found in the Oslo Fjord and from Rogaland to Finnmark.
Food:
Plankton and organic matter.
Facts about Eye Coral

Living eye coral can probably live for more than 250 years, and the old dead corals that the living ones grow on top of in central Norway are around 8,000 years old.
