Atlanterhavsparken invites you to exciting events on Monday 26 and Tuesday 27 September as part of the Research Days. The events are free and in collaboration with Marint Kompetansenter, Høgskulen i Volda and NTNU.

Lecture with Pia Ve Dahlen

Time: Monday 26 September at 12.00 and 18.00
Location: in front of Stortanken i Atlanterhavsparken

The event is for school pupils, students, teachers, the business world and other curious audiences. The lecture will be packed with knowledge about life in the sea.

We open the doors at 17.00 to the lecture at 18.00. The event is free. There will be an open cafe selling a simple menu, including the day's soup with homemade bread and drinks. Registration takes place at the ticket office upon arrival.

Pia Ve Dahlen is a marine biologist, diver, underwater guide, professional bather, science fiction enthusiast and a firework of a communicator. Pia has in a short time become a solid voice for the sea, and can be heard on Abel's tower, Ekko and other NRK-based broadcasts. In September 2021, she also published the book "The world under water" - a journey of discovery under the surface, which she herself defines as a children's book for adults. Pia was the first to receive the Naturviterprisen by the Naturviterne in 2021.

Ask researcher Snorri about the crab

Time: Tuesday 27 September at 18.00
Location: in front of Stortanken i Atlanterhavsparken

The event is for anyone who is curious about the marsupial crab and life in the sea. Based on questions from the audience, we join you on an exciting journey about the life of the marsupial crab. The event is free. Registration takes place at the ticket office upon arrival.

Snorre Bakke is an associate professor at NTNU in Ålesund and has studied the biology of marsupial crabs in his doctorate. Together with two co-authors, he has recently published the book "THE CRAB - a biological and cultural historical portrait", which provides a broad coverage of the pocket crab's life and its importance to us as a fishery and food resource.

Seminar for teachers in upper secondary schools: exploration, interdisciplinarity and sustainability in practice

Time: Monday 26 September at 15.00-17.00
Location: Breisundet food workshop i Atlanterhavsparken

The event is a collaboration between Atlanterhavsparken and the University of Volda.

In this seminar, teachers can take part in a science center activity developed by Atlanterhavsparken and the University of Volda. "The whole fish - can we taste our way to a (slightly) more sustainable future?" is an interdisciplinary and exploratory communication program where students can explore using all their senses. In the seminar, the participants get to experience the activity in practice, including taste tests, and the team behind the workshop will describe how they have thought and worked to develop the scheme. They will also present some of the research related to the project, and there will be a discussion afterwards where experiences and ideas can be shared.

Academics responsible for the event from Volda University College: Erik Fooladi, Beate Krøvel Humberset and Oda Heidi Bolstad, Department of Science, HVO.

NB: Limited places, maximum 25 participants (first registered gets first place).

A similar event for teachers at middle and junior level will take place at the University of Volda on Tuesday 27 September. See Forskingsdagane 2022 (hivolda.no) for more information and registration.

The science centers and Tekna spread the joy of science
Tekna turns 150 in 2024 and is celebrating by donating NOK 150,000 to all the country's science centers so that more students can visit their local center in the coming year. For Atlanterhavsparken , the donation means that we can also visit schools that are unable to come to us. We will contact the schools that are offered the opportunity to teach 5th-7th grade and look forward to reaching more pupils with our learning programs.
