From Morocco and northwards to the Faroe Islands and the Norwegian coast. Black Sea and the Mediterranean. Common along the Norwegian coast north to Trønderlag.
Food:
Small crustaceans, molluscs and fish larvae
Large edge needles often stand upright in the water column, well hidden between seaweed or eelgrass. They can also be observed lying on the bottom.
