Herring - "The Silver of the Sea"
Herring is one of our key species. During the winter months, herrings lay millions of eggs on the seabed in Mørefeltet.
Mørefeltet is one of the world's most important spawning grounds, but herring also spawn along the coast of Nordland and Vesterålen. Herring have always been essential for settlements and life along the whole of Norway's coast, as well as one of the most important species of fish that we eat. Herring are also an important source of nutrients in the food web — it is known as "The Silver of the Sea" with good reason. Herring have a symbolic location at Atlanterhavsparken — it's the first thing you see when you enter the aquarium.
